School of Journalism and Communication


About us:

School of Journalism and Communication (SJC) was founded in 2008, separate from School of Literature and Journalism and Communication.

At present, its undergraduate programs include Journalism, Broadcasting and Television, Art of Broadcasting and Hosting, and Radio and Television Producer. The school has graduated approximately 5,000 students, with more than 1,800 undergraduates.

SJC’s students bear the most of editing and broadcasting tasks of NYNU Television and Radio programs, repeatedly take part in large-scale activities in and out of the university, successively practice in many news media units, all of which have obtained good social repercussions.

SJC has the first-class facilities at home. Among them, the TV Program Editing and Making Laboratory is an experimental teaching demonstration center in Henan province; the Non-linear Editing Laboratory and the Speech Synthesis and Analysis Laboratory are experimental teaching demonstration centers in NYNU.

1. Journalism

Training objectives: It aims to train compound talents able to engage in various kinds of media in the news interview, writing, editing, review, photography and other news practices as well as party and government organs, enterprises and institutions about journalism. These majors should have a strong sense of social responsibility, a scientific way of thinking, a solid basic knowledge of the humanities, a broad international vision and superb news communication skills.

Length of schooling: four years

2. Broadcasting and Television

Training objectives: It aims to train practical talents with extensive cultural knowledge, keen observation, broad international vision and skilled professional skills and able to work in radio and television and other media, enterprises and institutions engaged in news interviews, reports, filming, editing, presiding over the planning, management of broadcast and TV.

Length of schooling: four years

3. Radio and Television Producer

Training objectives: It aims to train compound and innovative talents with professional theories and skills in radio and television director, planning, creation, production and the like, with a high level of theoretical accomplishment and artistic appreciation and able to work in radio and television news agency and other media, enterprises and institutions engaged in radio and television programs planning, creation, editing and writing, sound design, promotion and management, teaching and theoretical research.

Length of schooling: four years

4. Art of Broadcasting and Hosting

Training objectives: It aims to train practical and compound talents with multi subject knowledge and abilities such as Chinese language and literature, journalism, drama and film, able to work in the radio, television and other media agencies, and other relevant units in the broadcasting and journalism, or to the party and government organs, enterprises and institutions engaged in propaganda.

Faculty:

There are forty faculty and staff in SJC, including ten with senior professional and technical titles, twenty-five lecturers, eight with doctor’s degree, twenty-seven with master’s degree, and eight double-position teachers. It has also employed ten part-time professors and fifteen industry guidance teachers. In the faculty, it also includes one Academic Pacesetter of the Education Department of Henan Province, two Academic Pacesetters of Nanyang; one guest professor of Kyonggi University, one who has been granted provincial “May Day” labor medal, one of the famous teachers in NYNU, two who have won the first and second prize respectively in the teaching skill competition of Henan province, eleven who have won prizes in the teaching skill competitions of NYNU, five outstanding teachers in Nanyang, and twelve outstanding teachers in NYNU.


1. Jin Yizeng, PhD, Professor, Dean of SJC, is a member of NYNU’s academic committee and the teaching guidance committee, an Academic Pacesetter of both Nanyang and the Education Department of Henan Province. He is interested in literature and art. He has won many honors such as an outstanding teacher of NYNU and Nanyang city, an advanced individual in scientific research, an advanced worker in adult education.

During this period, he has published more than 40 journal articles, including three in first grade periodicals, five in second grade periodicals, and twelve in CSSCI periodicals. Besides, he has published totally five monographs and textbooks. Among them, the monograph Chinese Grammar Theory (Chinese Social Sciences Press, published in 2009) was awarded the first prize for outstanding achievements in the Education Department of Humanities and Social Sciences Research, Henan province; the textbook A Practical Course of Radio and TV (Peking University Press, published in 2010), won the second prize of the outstanding achievements of the Education Department of Humanities and Social Sciences Research, Henan province. He has participated in one project of the National Social Sciences Fund Project, presided over three provincial research projects, including one provincial teaching research project. Now he is in charge of one project of the humanities and social sciences research project of Education Ministry, that is, Research on the Heterogeneity and Variability of Cross-cultural Literary Theory.


2. Wang Yan, MA, Professor, Deputy Dean, is interested in internet education, radio and television, mainly teaching courses such as Art of TV Camera Shooting. She has won many teaching skill competitions at and above university level and many honors.

Wang Yan has published more than 40 journal articles, including seven in the first grade periodicals, three in the second grade periodicals, and five in CSSCI periodicals. Besides, she has published one textbook, presided over one provincial project of the experimental teaching demonstration center, two projects sponsored by the Science and Technology Department of Henan Province.


3. Li Peng, BA, Professor, Deputy Dean, the Guest Professor of Kyonggi University, a National Tester of Putonghua, has won many prizes and honors, such as the first prize in the speech contest in 1996, the first prize in the teaching skill contest of Henan province in 1996, an outstanding teacher in Henan province in 1998, the second prize in the teaching skill contest of NYNU in 2003, an academic pacesetter of Nanyang in 1996, a teaching master of NYNU, and an advanced worker in many aspects.

Professor Li has possessed solid theories and professional knowledge; he can grasp the domestic and international development trend, with rich experience and high level in scientific research. He has successively taught many courses such as Foreign Literature, Foreign Literature in 20th Century, Research on Myth, Public Relation, Language Art in Public Relation, Mandarin Speech Training, Reading and Training of Putonghua, Management of Modern Media. In recent years, he has been in charge of and completed six teaching and scientific research projects at and above university level, published two monographs and more than twenty journal articles in core journals, won the third prize of excellent achievements in Social Sciences of Henan Province, and was awarded the second prize for excellent thesis of the Education Department of Henan Province.


4. Li Juanhong, PhD, Associate Professor, Deputy Dean, has got her BA in Henan Normal University in 2002, MA and PhD in Sichuan University respectively in 2005 and 2009. Since teaching, she has got many honors such as an outstanding teacher.

Her main scientific research achievements are as follows: publishing twelve journal articles, including two in CSSCI periodicals, two in professional authority, and six in core periodicals; in charge of four projects at the university level, participating in one project of the major projects of the Ministry of Education and two provincial projects.


5. Li Le, PhD, Associate Professor, has got her MA in Henan University in 2003 and PhD in Wuhan University in 2009. She has taught many professional courses such as Theory of Journalism, Research on Famous Reporters, News Interview and Writing, and TV Art. She has published more than ten journal articles in the professional periodicals; participated or been in charge of many scientific research projects at and above university level and won many honors.


6. Xue Shuangfen, MA, Associate Professor, has got her BA in 2001 and MA in 2004. She is interested in news broadcasting and modern literature, mainly teaches courses such as Introduction to Art, Introduction to Drama Art, and Advertising Planning and Creation. In recently years, she has published eighteen journal articles in the core periodicals, CSSCI periodicals and others, participated in and finished three provincial scientific research projects, been in charge of and participated in 17 projects at the university level. She has got the honor as an outstanding teacher of NYNU in 2006, and got excellence for three consecutive years (from 2011-2013) in NYNU’s teaching quality evaluation.

Research:

In recent years, teachers in SJC have completed approximately 110 scientific research projects, including four of the National Social Sciences Fund Projects (with one being in charge of and three participating in), twenty-seven above the university level and eighty-six at the university level. They have published more than 600 journal articles, including twenty-six in the first grade periodicals, thirty-eight in the second grade periodicals, fifty-four in CSSCI periodicals and more than 100 in core periodicals. They have also published five monographs.

SJC actively carries out the academic exchange activities. It has organized several high-level academic activities, invited more than twenty well-known experts and senior members of the media to give lectures in the school. As a result, teachers and students are able to follow the academic trends closely and in time, their interests in study and research have been stimulated, and the whole level of scientific research has been improved.
