Nanyang Normal University, located in the historic and cultural city of Nanyang, is a general undergraduate university in Henan Province. Nanyang has a long history and profound cultural heritage. It is the hometown of Zhang Heng, the Sage of Medicine, Fan Li, the Sage of Business, and Fan Ye, the historian. It is also the place where Zhuge Liang, the Sage of Wisdom, retired and farmed. As the regional central city of Henan, Shaanxi and Hubei, Nanyang is the location and important core water source area of the central route of South-to-North Water Diversion Project, the largest water diversion project worldwide, and the center of politics, economy, culture, science and education, transportation, finance and commerce in southwestern Henan. In the university town on the Wolong Hill, our university is quite near to the famous scenic spot, Zhuge Wuhou Temple, overlooking Dushan in the north and Baihe River in the south. The environment is quiet and elegant, and the scenery is pleasant. It is an ideal place for students to study and cultivate their morality.

In the past few years, the university has made great progress in various undertakings. It has been approved to build 28 provincial-level or ministerial-level scientific research platforms. More than 150 high-level projects have been awarded, including national Natural Science Fund, Social Science Fund and 973 Programs. It has won more than 700 prizes, such as Special Prizes of Teaching Achievement in Henan Province, First Prizes of Outstanding Achievement in Social Science in Henan Province, and Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards. Chemistry is ranked in the top 1% of ESI in the world. In the global Nature Index, it has been ranked among the top 100 to 150 universities in China for four consecutive years, and among the universities in Henan Province, it has been ranked among the top 5, among which it has been ranked fourth for three times. The comprehensive strength and core competitiveness of the university are constantly enhanced, and the development shows a good situation, a good trend and a good momentum. In 2011, it was approved as a pilot unit for training master’s degree graduates and successfully enrolled students. In 2015, it was awarded National Civilized Unit by the Central Committee of Civilization. In 2017, it was approved as a master’s degree awarding unit.

Looking forward to the future, we are full of confidence. Standing at a new historical starting point, we must keep a clear mind, seize the important historical opportunity of the construction of the Central Plains Economic Zone, closely combine with the major strategic needs of Henan Province and the country, provide talents and scientific and technological support for the development and construction of the Central Plains Economic Zone and the regional economic and social development, and also lay a solid foundation for building our university into an application-oriented regional high-level university with distinctive characteristics.
