1. About us

School of Educational Sciences in Nanyang Normal University grows out of Teaching and Research Section of Education of Nanyang Teachers’ College, which can be dated back to 1952. Department of Education was set up in 2002 and changed to its present name —School of Educational Sciences. There are four full-time undergraduate programs: pedagogy, applied psychology, educational technology and pre-school education as well as correspondence courses of colleges and universities. The school has 1,100 full-time undergraduates and five teaching and research sections: i.e. the Teaching and Research Section of Pedagogy, the Teaching and Research Section of Applied Psychology, the Teaching and Research Section of Pre-school Education, the Teaching and Research Section of Educational Technology and the Teaching and Research Section of Public Education, as well as some research institutes such as the research center of psychological health education, institute of elementary education and training centers for teachers and education.

The school comprises fifty faculty members, including five professors, fifteen associate professors and twenty-three lecturers. There are six doctors and twenty-six masters. Three academic leaders in science of Department of Education, Henan Province and three cultivation targets of young Core teachers, Henan Province are included in the school.

In recent five years the school has undertaken twenty-four research projects, which include one national project, fifteen provincial and ministerial projects and eighteen research projects at and above university levels. More than twenty monographs and two hundred and ten research theses have been published; Furthermore, many achievements have been awarded by the local and provincial administrative government. The abundant scientific research achievements demonstrate the teachers’ great ability for research and enlarge the academic influence of the school.

The school insists on the people-oriented principle and attaches importance to the students by adopting a series of measures to cultivate and strengthen their comprehensive quality. The students have held the large-scale events on campus, organized psychological consultation activities and accomplished excellent achievements.

2. Undergraduate Programs

2.1 Educational Technology

This program aims to equip the students with the techniques of photography, computer painting, TV programs direction and production, multi-media software production and computer-based network education management and development; Enable the students to grasp the basic theoretical knowledge in the field of multi-media and the basic theory and teaching method on education and teaching, and use the modern teaching method expertly.

Duration: four-year program

Degree Awarded: Bachelor of Science

Core courses: An Introduction to Educational Technology, Foundation of Education Software Technology, Foundation of Multi-media Technology, Computer-assisted Education, Directing and Producing of TV Programs, Design of Teaching System,  Research Methods of Educational Technology, Information Technology and Curriculum Integration, Network Technology and Application in Education, Theory and Practice of Multi-media, Distance Education, Educational Communication, Information Teaching Methodology.

Employment: The graduates can work as teachers of educational technology in the colleges and universities and professional audio-visual education technicians in the audio-visual education labs and universities meanwhile they can meet the need of modern communication personnel by some industries.

2.2 Pre-school Education

This program aims to cultivate the teachers and researchers who have not only systematic and solid theory, basic knowledge and skills about pre-school art education but also the artistic skills like vocal music, dancing, painting and handwork and are well-rounded in moral, intellectual and physical development. The application-oriented graduates can serve as education administrators in all kinds of pre-school education institutes and news magazines of pre-school education.

Duration: four-year program

Core courses: Pre-school Education, Psychology of Pre-school Children, Hygiene and Healthcare of Pre-school Children, The History of Pre-school Education in China and Foreign Countries, Theory on Games in Pre-school Education, Design and Guidance of Kindergarten Education Activities, Organization and Administration of Kindergartens, Pre-school Art Education, Pre-school Music Education, Pre-school Science Education,  Pre-school Language Education, Elementary Music Theory, Solfeggio, Piano, Painting, Handwork and Manufacturing, Dancing.

2.3 Applied Psychology  

This program aims to cultivate the compound and application-oriented psychological talents who have a good command of the basic knowledge, theory and skills on psychology, have good quality of psychology and strong ability of application and practice and can take up teaching, administration, psychological consultation and treatment and psychological health education.

Main Orientations: Applied Psychology, Consultation Psychology, Clinical Psychology

Core courses: General Psychology, Psychological Statistic, Psychometrics, Consulting Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Personality Psychology, Pedagogical Psychology, Social Psychology, Public Relations Psychology, Human Resources Management, Design and Implementation of Psychological Health Education Curriculum in Schools, Psychological Guidance of Professions, Methods of Psychological Training , Training and Guidance of Psychological Consultant.

Employment: Be engaged in the specific work in the department of mass communication, organization and management, justice and reeducation, advertisement and publicity, public relations, poll and psychological hygiene as well as the work of psychological measurement and psychological consultation of the students and the public. It is also a good choice to take up the work of teaching and studying psychology in the universities and some research departments.

2.4 Pedagogy  

This program aims to cultivate the educational talented people grasping the basic knowledge, theory, and skills of education, with excellent professional quality in teaching and the ability of practical teaching who can take up the work of teaching, research, and administration in the primary and middle schools, educational research institutes and educational administrative institutes.

Employment: Be engaged in the work of education, administration, study of educational science, education consultation and the work related to education industry.
