On the afternoon of April 2, 2026, at the invitation of the School of Marxism, Professor Liu Huaiyu, a Doctoral Supervisor at Nanjing University, delivered an academic lecture titled From Abstract Generality to Concrete Universality: A Historical-Spatial Dialectics – Some Reflections on the Philosophical Foundations of the Chinese Path to Modernization in Conference Room S105 of Yifu Building. The lecture was chaired by Niu Tiansheng, Vice Dean of the School of Marxism, and was attended by faculty members and all graduate students of the school.

Professor Liu Huaiyu, drawing on the dialectical thoughts of Hegel, Marx, and Lenin concerning the relationship between the abstract and the concrete as his theoretical foundation, systematically explained the core essence of grasping the connotation of the Chinese path to modernization from the perspective of historical-spatial dialectics that sublates abstract generality and moves toward concrete universality. He analyzed the concrete universal characteristics and developmental logic of the Chinese path from three levels: the philosophy of history, social philosophy, and the historical view of civilizational forms.

At the conclusion of the lecture, Professor Liu Huaiyu, sharing his insights from scholarly research, encouraged young students, emphasizing that academic research needs classical theory as a methodological support. He urged graduate students in the School of Marxism to deeply study classics and apply Marxist theory. During the Q&A session, Professor Liu answered questions raised by the audience one by one.

The holding of this lecture deepened the theoretical understanding of the philosophical foundations of the Chinese path to modernization among faculty and students, broadened their academic horizons and research thinking, and is of great significance for promoting the disciplinary development of Marxist theory and enhancing the level of academic research at our university.
