On the morning of April 3, Professor Guo Xi, a Doctoral Supervisor at Jinan University and Editor-in-Chief of Language Strategy Research, was invited to deliver an academic lecture titled Innovation in Language Research in the Age of AI in the Lecture Hall of the School of Literature. More than a hundred faculty and students from the Office of Social Sciences, the International Office, and other units attended. The lecture was chaired by Niu Qingbo, Dean of the School of Literature.

Professor Guo Xi systematically analyzed the opportunities and challenges facing language research in the context of the widespread application of generative large language models. He pointed out that researchers should boldly explore the integration of language studies with cutting-edge technologies, focusing on topics that are difficult for AI to address, are of high social concern, and have research urgency. Using examples such as multimodal language research, language resource preservation, language rehabilitation, and language policy and social governance, he vividly demonstrated how language research can innovate in the era of artificial intelligence.

During the interactive session, participants exchanged views with Professor Guo Xi on topics such as the impact of language technology on the linguistic ecology and innovative pathways for language teaching in the AI era.

Attendees noted that Professor Guo’s lecture was broad in vision, clear in viewpoint, and rich in case studies. Listening to the report not only deepened their understanding of innovative directions in language research in the AI era but also strengthened their academic confidence to ground themselves in their disciplines and respond to contemporary issues.
