On the afternoon of March 31, Professor Zhao Guohua from Central China Normal University was invited to give an academic lecture entitled Fan Ye and Houhanshu to the faculty and students of our school in the East Studio Hall. The lecture was presided over by Liu Yudong, vice dean of the School of History.
At the beginning, Professor Zhao Guohua vividly introduced Fan Ye’s life, pointing out that Houhanshu was one of the “First Four Histories”, which compiled from numerous books and had rigorous structure. He then elaborated on the writing, style and ideological history of Houhanshu, and explained the additions, notes and expansions made by historians of different eras in order of dynasty.
He went on to point out that Fan used his talent to make his hometown of Nanyang known to the world, and encouraged students to focus on the development and changes in their hometowns and contribute to their development. Finally, Professor Zhao Guohua had an in-depth communication with the teachers and students and answered the students’ questions.
The lecture helps to broaden the teachers’ and students’ research ideas and is important in promoting the deepening of related fields of Chinese culture research in our school.
