On the afternoon of December 14, 2022, Prof. Wu Naicheng, Distinguished Professor of Watershed Ecology of University of Kiel, Germany, Prof. Beata Messyasz of Aquatic Biology, and Prof. Ryszard Goldyn of Watershed Ecology of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland, were invited to give online lectures on the topic, Water Ecosystem Protection, to our students and faculty. The lectures were hosted by Prof. Li Yuying and Dr. Deng Minjie from School of Water Resources and Environment Engineering. Representatives of faculty and students from School of Water Resources and Environment Engineering and peer experts from home and abroad attended the lecture online and had an exchange of discussions.

The lectures started with a report entitled Global Water Resources Status and Challenges by Prof. Wu Naicheng. Beginning from water resources issues in China and Germany, Prof. Wu talked about the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of global water resources, the status of water environment, water ecology, and the challenges. Then Prof. Beata Messyasz gave a lecture entitled Causes and biological effects of eutrophication, which focused on the problem of eutrophication in water. Combined with her research project, she analyzed the characteristics and growth conditions of cyanobacteria and filamentous green algae, the causes and hazards of water blooms, and other basic aspects of reservoirs. Finally, Prof. Ryszard Goldyn gave a report entitled Sustainable methods of protection and restoration of lake ecosystems, in which he presented the differences between traditional and modern methods of protecting and restoring lakes and reservoirs, and proposed an ecologically sustainable approach from the perspective of biodiversity. The aim of those lectures is to contribute to the rational development and sustainable development of water resources, provide scientific basis for the construction of ecological civilization, guide teachers and students majoring in water resources and water ecology to integrate scientific research and teaching, stimulate their professional confidence and enthusiasm for scientific research, and further improve their professional ability and academic cultivation.
