On March 18, 2026, at the invitation of the Department of College English Teaching & Studies, Professor Li Yan from Xi’an International Studies University delivered academic lectures for faculty and students. The lectures were chaired by Wang Zhiping, Dean of the Department of College English Teaching & Studies, and were attended by faculty and student representatives from related fields.
The lectures focused on two major themes — academic paper writing and foreign language project application — to help faculty improve their research capabilities.
The first lecture, titled How to Write an Academic Paper That “Enters the Circle”? Enhancing Genre Awareness and Academic Language Proficiency, began with the requirements of academic discourse competence. Professor Li systematically explained paper writing methods from a genre perspective, analyzing academic language norms and expression techniques. She emphasized that a high-quality paper requires accurate language, genre awareness aligned with disciplinary paradigms, and rigorous logic, helping faculty transition from “being able to write” to “writing that enters the circle.”
The second lecture, titled Foreign Language Project Application: How to Achieve a Logical Closed Loop from “Topic Selection” to “Proposal”, used examples to break down key points of the entire project application process, including topic refinement, literature review, framework construction, design of key and difficult points, and proposal norms. It effectively addressed the problem of faculty “having clear ideas but insufficient expression” and improved the logic of project applications.
The two lectures were highly relevant and practical, directly addressing the research needs of public foreign language teachers. Attending faculty believed that the lectures hit the pain points of research, offered practical methods, and provided significant guidance for paper writing and project applications. The lectures built a high-quality academic exchange platform, stimulated faculty’s research enthusiasm, enhanced research literacy and practical ability, and strongly promoted the collaborative development of teaching and research as well as the overall research level of the department.
