In response to the call to “Tell China’s Stories to the World and Spread China’s Voice” and to enhance the understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture among the international faculty and students, the International Office arranged a cultural study tour on December 7th and 8th. The tour included visits to significant locations such as the Medical Sage Temple, Wolong Hill, and the Han Dynasty Stone Carving Museum as part of the “Walking in the Central Plains, Sensing Henan” initiative.
At the Medical Sage Temple, through listening to explanations and visiting exhibitions, the international faculty and students were touched by the Medical Sage Zhang Zhongjing, particularly his feats such as practicing medicine to save lives and writing classics. They expressed a keen interest in the depth of traditional Chinese medicine and highly valued the distinctive allure of Chinese medical culture. At Wolong Hill, they learned about Zhuge Liang’s life story, visited his thatched cottage, and understood the famous quote of Zhuge Liang, “One must be free from worldly desires to have one’s aspiration established; one must be peaceful and tranquil to reach one’s distant goal”. They also entered the Bagua Array, experiencing the wonder and intricacies of ancient military wisdom. The delightful performance of “Gonggeng” (a performance related to farming-themed content in Chinese culture) further captivated the international faculty and students. At the Han Dynasty Stone Carving Museum, they paused to admire the exquisite stone carvings depicting themes such as the labor scenes in the Han Dynasty, architectural artistry, historical narratives, social life, astronomy, and mythology.
