The award ceremony for the 6th “Unforgettable Stories of Traveling in China” essay competition, hosted by the Japanese Overseas News Agency and supported by the Chinese Embassy in Japan and other organizations, took place at the Chinese Embassy in Japan on December 12th. Kazutaka Igarashi, the Japanese teacher of NYNU, was presented with the third prize for his essay Fifty-eight Compositions Written with the Heart. He also attended the award ceremony in Tokyo and gave a speech. Additionally, he was honored with the titles of “Outstanding Gardener” and “Outstanding Instructor”.

Chinese Ambassador to Japan, Wu Jianghao, presented awards to the representatives of the awardees. He stated that the bilateral relations between China and Japan have made significant progress over the past 50 years since the normalization of diplomatic relations, despite the hardships and twists. History has repeatedly proven that the people of both countries are the mainstay in maintaining and developing a healthy and stable Sino-Japanese relationship. It is hoped that the Japanese people will gain more firsthand knowledge and experience of China’s development in the new era, enhance interactions and friendship with Chinese friends, and jointly create a bright future for the bilateral relations.

It is reported that this essay competition was held to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the signing of the China-Japan Peace and Friendship Treaty. The competition solicited essays from people from all walks of life in Japan who have experience in China, and collected more than 230 essays. The winning works have been compiled and published in Japan. Kazutaka Igarashi has been teaching at our school since September 2022, teaching courses such as Advanced Japanese and Basic Japanese Writing.
