Recently, President of NYNU Zhang Baofeng received a letter from Dr. Raseo Maurizio, Mayor of Asti, Italy. In the letter, Raseo Maurizio expressed his gratitude to President Zhang Baofeng for his offer of cooperation on behalf of the university and his strong desire to work with NYNU to establish a Confucius Institute. He officially welcomed President Zhang Baofeng to visit Asti city.

It was reported that in 2011, the Italian city of Asti and Nanyang city began exchanges and cooperation, and in 2014, the two cities officially concluded as sister cities. During his visit to Nanyang on May 22-23, 2023, Mayor Raseo Maurizio and his delegation exchanged views with President Zhang Baofeng on building a Chinese language cooperation center, exploring cooperative education, and carrying out cooperation in various forms and fields. The two sides agreed to actively cooperate. He also held that cooperation in the fields of culture and education will add new connotations to the exchanges and cooperation between the two cities and the China-Italy friendship, which is of far-reaching significance.
