To advance the implementation of the Sino-Cuban cooperative education institution and ensure its enrollment and teaching progress, an exchange symposium between our university and Cuba’s Universidad de Oriente, was held in the East Conference Room on the third floor of the Administration Building, on July 12. Professor Alán Martínez from Universidad de Oriente and Professor Xiong Xinzhong, Vice President from Nanyang Normal University attended the meeting. Representatives from the International Office, the Office of Human Resources, the School of Artificial Intelligence, and other relevant departments were also present. The symposium was chaired by Yang Yang, Director of the International Office.

Vice President Xiong Xinzhong welcomed Professor Alán Martínez and his delegation. He noted that the “Santiago Institute of Technology at Nanyang Normal University”, established jointly by the two institutions, was officially approved by the Ministry of Education in May 2026. This achievement reflects not only the wisdom and dedication of both management teams and faculty but also stands as a testament to the profound friendship between the two countries and universities, marking a significant milestone in the deep integration of their international education. He stated that our university will remain true to the original intention of cooperation and continue to deepen comprehensive, multi-field, and in-depth strategic collaboration. The goal is to build this institute into a benchmark brand for Sino-foreign cooperative education, distinguished by its unique features, high quality, and fruitful outcomes.

Director Yang Yang provided an update on the institute’s recent developments, including the 2026 recruitment for its foreign master’s degree programs, plans for 2027 undergraduate and postgraduate enrollment, and strategic planning for adding new programs.

Professor Alán Martínez expressed gratitude for the warm reception and highly commended the significance of the institute’s approval. He detailed the implementation of the Cuban side’s teaching plans, the characteristics of their faculty’s classroom instruction, and the integration of professional courses with Spanish language training. He reaffirmed that the Cuban side would continue to provide full support for the institute’s development, working together to ensure its smooth operation and explore new models for international talent cultivation between Chinese and Cuban universities.

Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on talent cultivation, Spanish language teaching reform, and related issues. Following the meeting, Professor Alán Martínez and his delegation toured relevant university laboratories and training facilities.
