On the afternoon of October 4, International Office (School of International Education) held the first class for international students in the smart classroom 238 of the Science and Technology Building. Police chief Liang Yulong and police officer Liu Qi from Wuhou Police Station of Wolong District Public Security Bureau, and Dr. Gao Limin from the university hospital were invited to give speeches. The relevant faculties of International Office and all the international students attended the class. It was hosted by Cao Luman, director of International Office.
In the welcoming speech, Cao Luman said that the university always cared about student’s physical and mental health and safety as a mother does by citing a sentence from an ancient Chinese poem, “a mother will always care about her child who travels thousands of miles away from home”. By quoting the sayings, “Do as the Romans do” and “Take things as they come”, she urged the international students to abide by Chinese laws, China’s epidemic prevention and controlling policies, and rules and regulations of the university, get used to university life, study hard, and strive to become international talents obtaining a thorough knowledge of China and their home countries as soon as possible.
Police chief Liang Yulong gave a speech on the laws and regulations that are closely related to international students’ daily lives in accordance with the Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Administration of Exit and Entry, and the Detailed Rules for the Implementation of the Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Administration of Exit and Entry. Taking the international students’ study in China as the timeline, he elaborated on the matters needing attention in aspects of entry, stay and exit in a simple way. From the past and present infectious diseases to the types of common infectious diseases, Dr. Gao Limin illustrated the COVID-19, which has a far-reaching impact on our life and study. Then, from the recent development of COVID-19 pandemic, she also talked about the common sense of prevention and control in COVID-19 pandemic and China’s epidemic prevention and control policies.
Subsequently, the management measures of scholarships for international students were interpreted and explained, and the high-quality development of the cultivation of international students in our school was briefly introduced. In the last Q&A session, questions and concerns of the international students were well addressed by the teachers.
