2. Office Duties
The office is responsible for the education of undergraduate students. The main tasks include: to execute the policies or guidelines of national advanced education, to study the trend and direction of education and teaching both at home and abroad.
The office makes reforming the current teaching system as its first priority, focusing on curriculum construction, emphasizing teaching practice, standardizing teaching systems and setting up the ground for teaching team construction. The office together with each school draw up and implement the talent training plan. Besides, the office also promotes the policies set up by the university. The policy states for each major as strengthening basic courses teaching and broader major courses teaching, gearing teaching to the particular needs of each student and offering teaching on the basis of a variety of orientations. In order to attain the educational goal of the university, the office has implemented a teaching system in which courses are organized by each school or department. The courses offered include basic courses (so called platform courses), major basic courses, general elective courses, and research courses. Besides, the office is promoting the credit system which is a combination of teaching program and students’ free choice of courses guided by their supervisors. The credit system for free choice of courses was set up and has been completed. The guidelines for FCC for students have been provided. The system allows students fully develop their characteristics, specialty, and interests by providing students an environment with more freedom and opportunity to reshape themselves. The office establishes and applies the teaching practice plan, and co-constructs practice bases with some social groups. The office constitutes teaching rules and systems for the university, audits the implementation of them by termly evaluating every school, and reports the result to the chancellor of the university.
In addition, the office is also responsible for the admission, cultivation and evaluation of teachers, popularizes Mandarin among students, and assists diploma committee in auditing and rewarding students’ diploma.
3. The office has eight offices: General Office, Office of Teaching Affairs, Office of Student’s Academic Affairs, Office of Practice, Office of Diploma, Office of Mandarin Teaching and Testing, Office of Evaluation, and Office of Teaching Monitoring and Supervising. The responsibilities for each office are stated as below:
General Office is responsible for general affairs within the department and the teaching information system management.
Office of Teaching Affairs is responsible for proposals for and funding teaching reform, curriculum construction, major construction, teaching plan,organizing teaching evaluation and award activities, selecting and constructing elite courses..
Office of Student’s Academic Affairs is responsible for management of teaching operation, auditing and evaluating of teaching quality, course selection, management of registration, sitting-in course management, test management and text book management.
Office of Practice is responsible for management of seniors’ practice, construction of practice bases, experimental teaching management, management of student competitions, and research funding for undergraduates.
Office of Diploma is responsible for management of diploma for graduates.
Office of Mandarin Teaching and Testing is responsible for implementing national Mandarin policy and organizing the Mandarin teaching and testing for undergraduates.
Office of Evaluation (Teaching Quality Monitoring and Evaluating Office) is responsible for drafting and implementing evaluation plans for undergraduate education, collecting evaluation data, and composing and issuing yearly teaching quality report.
Office of Teaching Monitoring and Supervising is responsible for monitoring and supervising implementing of teaching regulation, reporting and feeding back violations to the university and departments.
Office of Teaching Affairs is responsible for textbook construction.
