In order to stimulate students enthusiasm for exploring mathematical science, Professor Mao Shipeng of the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was invited to deliver a special report entitled Magnetic Liquid in the third floor of the Science and Technology Building on the afternoon of September 26. The report was chaired by Li Hongwu, vice dean of the School of Mathematics and Statistics. A number of faculty members and students from the School of Mathematics and Statistics attended.

Mao Shipeng vividly introduced from the video the ferromagnetic fluid in different field strength of different surface forms, revealed its magic and universality, and explained the importance of ferromagnetic fluid application and universality from the medical health, electronic information, national defense and military briefly. He pointed out that scientific research aims to show the deep law of natural phenomena, guide peoples lives. Finally, Mao Shipeng took the fully coupled ferromagnetic fluid model as an example to guide the students to learn the relevant knowledge of numerical format together humorously.

Mao Shipengs spirit of careful thinking, popularizing scientific knowledge from shallow to deep, and analogy close to life made the participants and students further broaden their academic horizons, experience the charm of mathematics, and realize the importance of mathematics as a basic subject and research tool.

The successful holding of this report not only stimulated students to engage in profound contemplation of cutting-edge science but also widened their scope of knowledge and enriches their intellectual reserves, thereby contributing to the advancement of the School of Mathematics and Statistics disciplinary connotations and enhancing the caliber of talent cultivation.

Prof. Maos research interests encompasses the finite element method and its applications, multi-physics coupling computations, computational fluid mechanics, and magnetohydrodynamics. He has published over 80 articles in esteemed journals such as Math.Comp., Numer. Math., Siam.j. Numer. Math., SIAM J. Sci. Comput., M3AS, and has presided over and participated in more than ten projects sponsored by the Foundation Committee and the Ministry of Science and Technology.
