On the morning of September 28, invited by the School of Marxism, Professor Liu Huaiyu of Nanjing University delivered an academic lecture titled Studying the Intellectual History Research Methods from Classic Writers and Understanding the Modern Society Scientifically for the graduate students and their supervisors in the Conference Room S105 of Yifu Building. The meeting was chaired by Jin Anguang, dean of the School of Marxism.
The lecture employed the typological research method of socialist literature history in the Communist Manifesto as a model. After reviewing four types of socialism----reactionary, conservative or bourgeois, critical utopian, and scientific socialism and communism----and their basis for division----different attitudes towards capitalism, machine industry, and the proletariat, the lecture refered to relevant texts such as the Economic and Philosophical Manuscripts of 1844, Criticism of the Gotha Program, Poverty of Philosophy, and Principles of Communism.
By adhering to the scientific epistemological principles of materialist dialectics from abstract to concrete, under the guidance of the theory of production mode and class analysis of historical materialism, the lecture aimed to advance understanding of the essence of socialism and socialism with Chinese characteristics while deeply grasping the new changes, contradictions, and problems of contemporary capitalism. After the meeting, Professor Liu Huaiyu engaged in a warm and cordial interaction with the graduate students.
This academic lecture tailored for the graduate students in the new semester of the School of Marxism and served as a special lecture on the classic works of Marxism, aiming to guide the graduate students in their study of classic works and consolidation of their theoretical foundation. This lecture plays an important role in promoting the graduate training and discipline construction for the School of Marxism.
