[Lecture] New Type of Laser Remote Sensing Technology and Its Application in “Carbon Neutrality”
Speaker: Gong Wei (Wuhan University)
Date: May 13, 2024 (Monday)
Time: 15:00-17:00.
Venue: Lecture Hall, 3rd Floor, Science and Technology Building
Report Introduction: The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed to actively and prudently promote carbon peak and carbon neutrality. In response to the major strategic deployment of the national “dual carbon” goals and the strategic significance of achieving these goals, this report mainly introduces the scientific discoveries and technological accumulation made by Professor Gong Wei and his team over the years using advanced laser remote sensing technology to address a series of issues related to carbon neutrality. In view of the current lack of transparency in carbon information, the serious dependence on foreign technology in the field of carbon information perception, the insufficient market share of domestic high-precision carbon monitoring equipment, the lack of standards for regional carbon sink monitoring and measurement, and the imperfect carbon emission inventory, Professor Gong Wei proposed to use advanced remote sensing technology for carbon verification and monitoring, to establish China’s independent “space-ground integrated” high-precision carbon monitoring system, to strengthen the research on carbon emission reduction and carbon sink enhancement mechanisms, and to improve the level of carbon emission inventory compilation, actively solving the “bottleneck” problems in the process of achieving carbon neutrality goals, and researching the selection of the least costly technical path and strategy at the right time and place to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality.
Introduction to the Speaker: Gong Wei, Vice President of Wuhan University. He has been committed to optical remote sensing scientific research for a long time, mainly engaged in the teaching and research of advanced lidar technology and its scientific applications. He has presided over the national key research and development plan projects, the major scientific research instrument development projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
