On the afternoon of October 14, 2025, Professor Wang Jue from Xi’an Jiaotong University was invited by the School of Marxism to deliver an academic lecture titled “Is Robotic Elderly Care the Solution to the Aging Problem?” in the East Conference Room on the first floor of the Administration Building. The lecture was chaired by Niu Tiansheng, Vice Dean of the School of Marxism, with all graduate students from the School of Marxism in attendance.
Professor Wang Jue began by reflecting on robotic solutions to the aging problem. Through analyzing various ethical issues arising from intelligent robotic elderly care in practical applications, along with multiple ethical risks such as “replacing filial piety with robotic care” in robotic elderly care from the perspective of Confucian ethics, she highlighted the significant practical importance of Confucian ethics in identifying and avoiding moral risks as a basis for developing robotic elderly care. She advocated replacing the current “substitution logic” in robotic care design and application with an “assistance logic” of robot-assisted elderly care.
This academic lecture represents an important activity by the School of Marxism to promote graduate education and disciplinary development. By deeply exploring the ethical and social impacts of robotic elderly care, it helps graduate students establish a scientific view of technology and a sense of humanistic care, comprehensively enhances interdisciplinary analysis and critical thinking skills, and plays a significant and positive role in advancing the disciplinary development of the School of Marxism.
