On July 27, the national finals of the 10th National Undergraduate Life Science Contest (Innovation and Entrepreneurship Category) concluded successfully at Lanzhou University of Technology. Competing teams from our university demonstrated exceptional performance and achieved outstanding results: the project “New Function of the ‘Nobel Prize-winning Wonder Drug’—Study on the Molecular Mechanism of Dihydroartemisinin Against Siniperca chuatsi Rhabdovirus” won the National First Prize, and the project “Targeting the ‘Fish’ to Combat the ‘Virus’—A New Green Prevention and Control Scheme for Siniperca chuatsi Rhabdovirus” received the National Second Prize. Among the 22 teams from Henan Province that advanced to the finals, two were from our university. The number of finalist teams and awards of our university both ranked among the top in similar institutions nationwide.

This year’s contest attracted 7,548 teams from 590 institutions across the country. After intense competition, 518 projects from 210 universities qualified for the on-site final defense. The delegation from the School of Life Sciences at our university delivered excellent performances, securing one National First Prize, one National Second Prize, and one National Third Prize.

The School of Life Sciences has actively explored and implemented a new talent development model termed “Three-Color Embedded” education, which enhances students’ comprehensive quality and professional competence in an all-round way through red gene soul-casting, blue scientific research empowerment, and green ecological education. The school consistently adheres to the educational philosophy of “promoting learning and teaching through competition”, committed to fostering students’ innovative thinking and practical abilities. These outstanding achievements not only reflect the solid professional foundation and dynamic innovative mindset of our life science students but also demonstrate the exceptional teaching proficiency and innovative capability of our faculty.
