Speech by President Zhang Baofeng

On the morning of October 22, Nanyang Normal University held the opening ceremony to welcome the incoming freshmen. Lu Zhiwen, Secretary of the Party Committee of NYNU, and President Zhang Baofeng attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by President Zhang Baofeng.

Zou Zijin, a freshman representative from School of Education Science, recalled the cordial communication between General Secretary Xi Jinping and her during his visit to Nanyang this May. She said that she would uphold the school motto, “Learn and seek truth, practice and strive for self-improvement”, forge ahead and achieve her dreams. Yin Mingshen, a 2021 graduate student from School of Life Science and Agricultural Engineering, called on students to study hard and contribute their youth and strength to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Duan Yongkang, an undergraduate representative in Grade 2019 from School of Marxism, suggested that everyone should constantly enrich themselves and be a member of Nanyang Normal University with faith, dreams, actions and inheritance.

Niu Qiuhong, a teacher representative and vice dean of School of Life Science and Agricultural Engineering reviewed her twelve years of work experiences in NYNU. She noted the new students should be strict with themselves, become new era college students good at learning, thinking, understanding, and be courageous enough to probe, have a university life full of passion, sweat, experiences and harvest, be worthy of parents’ entrust and without regret in their own youth.

Lu Zhiwen, Secretary of the University Party Committee of NYNU, extended a warm welcome to the freshmen on behalf of the university. Lu Zhiwen hoped that all students should love the party and the country, cherish the world, and set up the lofty ambition of loving the motherland and being loyal to the people, so that the love for the family and the country can be deeply rooted in the heart. All students should study hard, foster independence and self-reliance, build their own knowledge system, cultivate their own core self-restraint, improve their comprehensive qualities, cast their noble character. They should sharpen and practice to become talents, work hard and seek truth, constantly update knowledge, broaden vision, and strive to become high-level compound talents. They also need strengthen the body, temper the will, and maintain good living habits.

President Zhang Baofeng of NYNU remarked that the students should, in the new life journey, study diligently, be brave to face challenges, strive for the future of NYNU, make contributions for the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. He also wished the freshmen keeping fit physically and mentally and being productive in their learning.
