From July 11 to 13, the “International Conference on Coastal Physical Geography and Land-Sea Coordination & 6th International Forum on Watershed Ecological Security”, hosted by Ningbo University and co-hosted by our university, was held in Ningbo. Over 100 experts and scholars from more than ten countries, including the United States, Canada, Germany, and Russia, gathered in Yongcheng (Ningbo) to engage in in-depth discussions on the core theme of “Watershed Ecological Security and Land-Sea Coordination”. Professor Li Bailian, a high-level flexibly introduced talent at our university, Academician of the American Academy of Human Ecology, and Lifetime Professor at the University of California, Riverside, served as one of the chairs of the conference academic committee. Vice President Xie Haiquan led the South-to-North Water Diversion Watershed Ecological Security team to attend the event.
On the morning of July 12, Vice President Xie Haiquan delivered an opening speech, extending a warm welcome to the participants. Academicians Jiang Tong and Li Bailian, Professor Nicola Fohrer from Kiel University, Germany, and Professor Wu Naicheng from Ningbo University delivered invited keynote reports, sharing their latest research findings. Subsequently, the “National Discipline Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Base for Watershed Ecological Security in the Water Source Area of the South-to-North Water Diversion Middle Route (111 Base)” at our university organized a dedicated parallel session. Fourteen overseas recruited experts and two on-campus young PhDs presented thematic reports on water conservation, ecological restoration, and watershed management, systematically showcasing the team's latest research progress and sparking enthusiastic responses.
During the conference, Vice President Xie Haiquan led a delegation to the Institute of Hydraulic and Ocean Engineering at Ningbo University, where they reached a consensus with Academician Zhu Zhiwei’s team on joint construction of the 111 Base, collaborative talent cultivation, and coordinated research on major scientific projects, laying a framework for future in-depth cooperation.
This forum aimed to further consolidate our university’s international academic influence in the field of watershed ecological security, provide scientific and technological support for ecological protection and high-quality development in the water source area of the South-to-North Water Diversion Middle Route, and inject new momentum into the university’s renaming as a university and the construction of doctoral degree-granting units.
