In 2005, Nanyang Sino-British Lausanne Insect Biology United Laboratory was built by Nanyang Normal University and the famous international agriculture research institution―the British Laosanne Research Laboratory. Approved by Science and Technology Department in Henan Province, the lab developed into Henan Provincial Key Laboratory of Funiu Mountain Insect Biology in December, 2008.

With an area of 2000 square meters, the lab owns 370 sets of equipment with a value of more than twenty million RMB. With big equipment like laser scanning confocal microscopes and flow cytometers, the lab is divided into over twenty functional districts, such as molecular biology, protein isolation and purification, and freeze-dried laboratories.

With insects as its main research objects, the lab researches on four areas: insect biochemistry and molecular biology, insects bioreactor and biological products development, Funiu Mountain resources entomology, and engineering enzymes creation. In recent years, the lab have undertaken seventeen national projects and more than 30 projects at or above provincial level, published more than 100 academic papers on Chinese or overseas journals, such as Science and Nucleic Acids Research. Besides, the faculty have published 17 academic monographs, applied and been approved over ten national inventions and patents. The team made up of key members of the laboratory was awarded the Innovative Science and Technology Team in Henan Province.

The lab has twenty five members including six professors, five associated professors, one PhD supervisor, fifteen master tutors, one expert at national level, one national candidate of New Century Talents Project, two enjoying the state council special allowance. Now thirty graduates are learning for their master’s degrees at campus and the lab is recruiting joint training graduates and overseas students.
