On the morning of May 7, 2026, invited by the School of Music, Professor Zhang Dun, a New Zealand bass singer and vocal pedagogue, delivered an academic lecture titled Searching for the Lost Vocal Tradition to NYNU faculty and students in the Middle Campus Concert Hall. The lecture was presided over by Vice Dean Liu Zhentao of the School of Music, with vocal faculty, all graduate students, and some undergraduate students in attendance.

Professor Zhang Dun elaborated on core topics including vocal production mechanisms and proper breathing techniques, and gave live vocal demonstrations with classical works, achieving a seamless integration of theory and practice. Following the lecture, a symposium was held in the school’s conference room. Faculty and students raised questions concerning undergraduate and graduate training, challenges in teaching and performance, repertoire selection, and stage practice. Professor Zhang Dun, together with the school’s vocal faculty, provided detailed answers and guidance.

This event established an efficient, professional platform for academic exchange, broadened the international professional horizons of faculty and students, helped consolidate their vocal fundamentals and enhance performance capabilities, and provided strong support for the development of the vocal music discipline and talent cultivation at the School of Music.
