On January 5th, at the invitation of the Department of College English Teaching & Studies, Professor Hu Kaibao, Assistant to the President of Shanghai International Studies University and Dean of the Corpus Research Institute, delivered an academic report titled The Application of Corpora in Foreign Language Teaching: Issues, Methods, and Cases in Room 230 of the Science & Technology Building. The session was chaired by Professor Li Changting, Head of the Social Science Office. Teachers from the Department of College English Teaching & Studies and the School of Foreign Languages attended the meeting.

Hu Kaibao detailed in his report the technological advantages and core issues of corpus applications in foreign language teaching, emphasizing its applications in areas such as lexicography, curriculum design, foreign language testing, interlanguage research, discourse analysis, textbook development, and classroom teaching. He took the compilation of the textbook New Era Applied College English as an example to demonstrate the application of corpora in textbook writing, and shared the comprehensive application platform of the multilingual database Xi Jinping: The Governance of China from the Shanghai International Studies University Corpus Research Institute, as well as the role of corpus technology in the development of an intelligent multilingual teaching and research platform.

During the interactive Q&A session, the attending teachers posed a series of questions, to which Professor Hu Kaibao provided detailed responses one by one. He also gave directional suggestions on the cultural research of China and South Korea in the corpus construction and national project declaration. Finally, Professor Zong Yun, Head of the Department of College English Teaching & Studies, gave a concluding address. This academic report illustrated the potential of corpus application in the era of big data to all the participants and clarified the direction for their research endeavors.
