[Lecture] The AI Era: How Can Humanities Avoid Knowledge Traps?

Lecturer: Prof. Zhang Baoming (Henan University)

Date: May 25, 2025 (Sunday)

Time: 10:00-12:00 a.m.

Venue: Lecture Hall, 3rd Floor, Science and Technology Building

Introduction to the Lecture: As AI systems like DeepSeek achieved ChatGPT-level reasoning at 5-10% of traditional model costs through open-source models, we face profound societal transformations. This technological leap has intensified value conflicts, life outlook disruptions, and lifestyle adjustments, exacerbating social differentiation and individual alienation. This marks a new encounter between science and humanities in the AI era, forcing humanity to re-examine the meaning of life, the value of creativity, and the boundaries of self. While tool-making has defined human evolution, the measure of our civilization lies in how we wield these tools. In this era of superintelligent AI, what fundamental humanistic principles must we preserve?

Introduction to the Speaker: Prof. Zhang Baoming, President of Henan Historical Society and Dean of Henan University Institute for Advanced Humanities Research, specializes in modern Chinese intellectual history, with a focus on the ideological history of the May Fourth Movement period. He has published over 100 academic papers.
