From October 20th to 25th, Professor Lu Zhiwen, Secretary of the Party Committee of NYNU, and his delegation visited Egypt at the invitation of the National Research Center of Egypt.
From October 20 to 23, Lu Zhiwen and his entourage collected research materials on life sciences, agricultural sciences and water resources protection in relevant research institutions and universities in Cairo and other places, during which they met with Lu Chunsheng, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, and Li Li, dean of the School of Chinese at Helwan University in Egypt. Under the witness of Lu Chunsheng, China and Egypt reached preliminary cooperation intentions on the joint training of application-oriented skilled talents, the establishment of “Chinese + major” characteristic training, and Chinese language cooperation and exchange projects.
On October 24, Lu Zhiwen and his entourage conducted academic exchanges and cooperation negotiations with the Egyptian team including Mamdouh MoawadAli, Executive Deputy Director of the Egyptian National Research Center, Mahmoud Hozayn, Director of the Institute of Agricultural Biology, and Gamil Ageeb, Director of the Department of Soil and Water Resources.
Lu Zhiwen briefed the Egyptian side on the basic situation, the university’s philosophy and characteristics, and its achievements in international cooperation. Yao Lunguang, dean of the School of Life Science and Agricultural Engineering, introduced the research results and characteristics of the backbone and characteristic disciplines of agricultural biology, ecological security and water resources protection, as well as the foundation and achievements of China-Egypt cooperation in the early stage.
Mamdouh Moawad Ali introduced the basic situation of the Egyptian National Research Center, the research direction and team, and the current situation of cooperation with China. Lu Zhiwen and Mamdouh Moawad Ali signed a research cooperation agreement on behalf of Nanyang Normal University and the Egyptian National Research Center, respectively. The two sides had in-depth discussions on further cooperation in the joint application of China-Egypt intergovernmental projects, the establishment of joint laboratories and innovation teams, the exchange of visits between teachers and students, and the joint training of master’s and doctoral students.
Lu Zhiwen pointed out that both China and Egypt have a long history and splendid civilization. As one of the first countries to join the Belt and Road Initiative, Egypt is a natural partner in the Belt and Road Initiative, with strong political mutual trust and rich achievements and broad prospects for practical cooperation. He hoped that through the scientific research exchanges and cooperation between Nanyang Normal University and the National Research Center of Egypt, we would continue to strengthen and promote all-round cooperation, so as to provide better opportunities and resources for the development of both sides.
It is reported that the Egyptian National Research Center (NRC) is the first and largest multidisciplinary research institute in the Middle East, established in 1956 under the Egyptian Ministry of Scientific Research, with the aim of promoting basic and applied research in industry, environment, agriculture, public health medicine and national economic development priorities, with about 4,700 scientific researchers and 2,500 administrative staff.
