Overview:

The School of Physics and Electronic Engineering was originated from the Teaching and Research Section of Chemistry and Physics that founded in 1951; it was split independently as the Department of Physics in 1978. With the increasing of programs, it was renamed as School of Physics and Electronic Engineering in 2006. It is one of the earliest teaching departments as well as one of the six schools that has undergraduate programs in Nanyang Normal University. In recent sixty years, the schooling level and schooling status continue to improve by the persistent efforts of our faculty and leaders, especially in 12th “Five-year Project” period, with the development and extension of the lab construction and faculty team, the school gain fruitful achievement and further development in party building, teaching, research, team building, laboratory building, etc.

Faculty:

So far, School of Physics and Electronic Engineering has a faculty of 44, among whom 39 are full-time and part-time teaching and research staff members, 4 professors, 16 associate professors, 20 Ph. D holders, 2 Ph. D candidates and 4 Master Degree holders; 2 National Excellent Teacher Award winners, 2 Provincial Excellent Teacher Award winners, 2 Leading Scholars winners awarded by Henan administration, 3 Leading Scholars winners awarded by Henan Education Office, 6 Leading Scholars winners awarded by Nanyang administration, 6 Provincial Teaching Model Award winners, 1 Teaching Master Winner of the university, 2 Teaching Master candidates, 6 part-time professors, among whom are 1 Academician and 5 doctoral tutors .  

The school now has three undergraduate programs: Physics, Electronic Information Engineering, and Telecommunication Engineering; five Teaching and Research Sections: Theoretical Physics Sector, Innovation and Practice Center, Electronic Information Engineering sector, College Physics Teaching Methodology sector and Telecommunication Engineering sector; 4 academic institutes: Institute of Theoretical Physics, Institute of Computing Physics, Sophisticated Material R&D Center and Innovation and Practice R&D Center.

Physics is a 4-year educational undergraduate program, and one of the earliest educational programs in the university. It aims to make students to master basic theories, fundamental knowledge and professional skills of physics and hold comprehensive quality to be physics teachers.

Physics program has solid teaching and practical foundation. The key courses include Mathematics, Linear Algebra, Mechanics, Thermology, Electromagnetics, Optics, Atomic Physics, Theoretical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Quantum Mechanics, Methods of Mathematical Physics, Solid State Physics, Electrical Engineering and Its Experiments, Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Modern Physics Experiments, Physics Teaching Theories, Fundamental Experiments of Physics, Technical English, The Design and Research of Demonstrative Experiments of High School Physics, etc. Physics is one of the key programs in the university, Theoretical Physics is one of the key disciplines in the university.

Electronic Information Engineering is a 4-year engineering undergraduate program. It aims to make students to master basic theories of Electronic Information Engineering; become senior professional talents in electronic design, testing, maintenance and improvement fields and be competent to do research, application, development work in electronic information technology field. The key courses include Mathematics, Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Data Structures, Computer Theories and Experiments, Signal and System, C Language, Automatic Control Theories, High-frequency Circuits, Digital TV Principle, EDA, Computer Aided Design, Computer Communication Networks, Communication Theories, PLC, DSP, etc.

Telecommunication Engineering is a 4-year undergraduate program. It aims to make students to master knowledge of communication technology, communication systems, communications network, etc.; have basic abilities for design, development, debug and engineering applications of modern communication systems and networks; become senior technical talents to be competent to applied communication technology and equipment basic development work in communication field, national defense industry and other sectors. The key courses include Mathematics, Theoretical Foundation Circuitry, Analog Circuits, Digital Circuits, High Frequency Circuit, Communication Theories, Signals and Systems, EDA, DSP, Foundation and Application of Microcontroller, Program-controlled Exchange, Mobile Communications, Embedded Systems, GPS Principles and Applications, etc.

Teaching and Researching

The school now has Electronic Information Engineering Program which is the provincial pilot reform program; Theoretical Mechanics which is the provincial Top Quality Course; The Design and Research of Demonstrative Experiments of High School Physics which is the provincial Top Quality Course; Theoretical Physics which is the A-level key discipline of the university; Physics which is the key program of the university; Electronic Information Engineering Program which is the key program of the university; Theoretical Physics Teaching Team which is the key teaching team of the university; Electronic Information Engineering Experimental Teaching Center which is the key experimental center of the university; Telecommunication Engineering Experimental Teaching Center which is the key experimental center of the university; Optics which is university-level top quality course; Electric Dynamics which is university-level top quality course; Analog Electronics which is university-level top quality course; College Physics which is university-level top quality course; Bilingual College Physics which is university-level top quality course; Signals and Systems which is university-level top quality course, etc.

The school has strong research capacity, during recent 3 years the school has undertaken 13 national projects like National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), 20 provincial projects and above 50 municipal projects; The number of published papers is above 300, over 90 of which were cited by SCI, EI and over 80 of which were cited by CCJC; 11 papers are in the JCR First sector, and 20 papers are in the JCR second sector among the papers cited by SCI.

The school now has 14200 square meters teaching space, above 5600 sets of research device and equipment that values 56,000,000rmb, which lays solid foundation for training high-quality talents and high-level scientific research. In recent years, the school has built a high-performance computing platform, sophisticated material R&D center, innovation and practice R&D center and the Key Opto-Electronics Information Processing Laboratory of Nanyang City.
